CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

Henry August Bevensee
born September 29, 1895 in Newark, New Jersey
died November 3, 1903, in Newark, New Jersey - age 8 years.

Father: Otto Heinrich Bevensee (1862-1943)
Mother: Anna Greuter (1876-1958)

Cause of death: Appendicitis

Appendicitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the appendix, causing severe abdominal pain. It is classified as a medical emergency and in many cases requires removal of the inflamed appendix. If left untreated, death is almost certain, mainly because of the risk of rupture leading to infection and inflammation of the intestinal lining. Reginald Fitz first described acute and chronic appendicitis in 1886.

Appendicitis was a treatable condition by 1903, but we have no way of knowing what young Henry's situation was and why he died from it.
