CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

Catherine Horn Bauer
born October 1832, in Hesse Dormstadt, Germany
died April 7, 1901 in Newark, NJ

Father: Unknown
Mother: Unknown
Husband: Christian Bauer (1835-1897)

Cause of death: Dilatation of Heart

Dilatation of the Heart, also known as Dilated Cardiomyopathy or DCM, is a disease of the heart muscle, primarily affecting the heart's main pumping chamber (left ventricle). The left ventricle becomes enlarged (dilated) and can't pump blood to the body with as much force as a healthy heart can.

DCM doesn't necessarily cause symptoms, but for some people the disease is life-threatening. It is a common cause of heart failure, the inability of the heart to supply the body's tissue and organs with enough blood. The condition may also cause irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia), blood clots or sudden death. In Catherine's case, she suffered for two months before dying.
