The full cause of death listed on his death certificate was Sudden death at home; carcinoma of larynx; hemoptysis. Carcinoma, or cancer, of the larynx, the upper part of the trachea that contains the vocal chords. Hemoptysis is the sudden and heavy coughing up of blood, similar to the final stage of tuberculosis. John died at his home, 23 Laventhal Avenue in Irvington, with his wife, Margaret, no doubt witnessing his death. His remains were cremated at Rosehill Crematory in Linden, NJ.
