Cause of death: Killed in Action

During the American Civil War, 27-year-old Corporal William Schneider was enlisted with Company E of the 2nd Regiment of the New Jersey Volunteers when he married 17-year-old Louisa Bittlingmeier in Newark, New Jersey on January 5, 1864. Four months later he was killed in action in a skirmish at Lauren Hill, Virginia. His burial place is unknown.
