CAUSES OF DEATH![]() born October 14, 1852 in Newark, NJ died February 21, 1936 in Newark, NJ Father: John Murphy Mother: Mary E. Murphy Husband: Joseph A. Harrold Cause of death: Lobular Pneumonia Around January 28, 1936, Catherine became ill with what at first appeared to be a bad cold. She was living with her Murphy family at 77 Murray Street in Newark. Within a few days, her condition worsened and Dr. Hugh Devlin was called to come to the home to check her out. His diagnosis was Lobular Pneumonia. Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lungs. In this case it was one lung (lobular). Typical symptoms associated with pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty in breathing. Apparently, she suffered from the illness for a relatively short time (less than 4 weeks) before she died at home on February 21, 1936. Dr. Devlin listed Cerebral Hemorrhage as a contibutory cause of death. A Cerebral Hemorrhage is a type of stroke. It's caused by an artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues. This bleeding kills brain cells. Catherine's husband, Joseph Harrold, died in 1908. They are buried together at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange. ![]() |
