On the 1930 federal Census, dated April of that year, Grace is listed as single and living with her Murphy family at 77 Murray Street in Newark. When she died suddenly barely two years later, on May 27, 1932, she was married, to Thomas Wheeler. She was only 35 years old. At the time of her death, she was living at 25 Ball Street in Irvington.
On May 21, 1932, Grace had a stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) and was brought to Irvington General Hospital where she died a week later. Contributory causes of death were chronic myocarditis (heart attack) and malnutrition. She is buried with her Murphy family at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.
