John G. Muha Obituary
John G. Muha age 87 of Brick Township died Saturday June 8th, 2019 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. John was born in Irvington, lived in Florham Park before moving to Brick Township 22 years ago. John retired in 1996 from PSE&G in Essex County where he worked for over 47 years.
John was pre-deceased by his brother Robert Muha.
Surviving are his wife, Mary A. Muha (Shaffery). Five sons, John and his wife Patty of Cedar Knolls, NJ, Joe and his wife Maria of Rockaway, Richard and his wife Nancy of Long Valley, Jim of Randolph and George and his wife Karen of Mendham. Also surviving is his daughter, Marianne Muha and her partner Ed Hanna of Brick, and his two daughters Megan and Jackie. One brother, William and his wife Joyce of Asbury, NJ and 11 Grandchildren - Johnny, Meghan, Michael, Kelly, Jake, Emily, Nicholas, Staci, Daniel, Georgi & Ben.
John attended Irvington High School from 1947 to 1951 where he played football and captained the team his senior season in 1950. He served his country as a Marine in the Korean War where he was awarded a Commendation Metal for Valor for his “unhesitatingly and fearlessly leaving the safety of his bunker under heavy and devastating mortar and artillery fire to carry his wounded comrade to where he would receive immediate and effective first aid treatment.” He went on to work for PSE&G as a field lineman where he serviced Essex County for most of his career. His greatest love was his wife and family, which he raised in Florham Park, NJ. There he was an active member of the community, coaching baseball teams and using his handyman skills to help his neighbors build decks, remodel houses and add-on to their homes.
Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed the peace of the ocean and camaraderie with his fishing friends as well as his sons. In 1996, he retired with his wife Mary to Brick, NJ, where together they enjoyed going to the track, A.C., going out with beloved friends as well as hosting family parties and cooking delicious meals.
John loved to laugh, adored his family, was quick to forgive, never held a grudge, had an infectious smile, and left an undeniable impression on his family and friends.
Although he was a superb athlete, a war hero, a dedicated employee, a wonderful dad and grandfather, a loyal friend and talented jack-of-all trades, his greatest love was his wife Mary and his finest accomplishment was when he married her 59-years ago.
A Memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 at Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Hwy. 88 Brick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 9:30 in Visitation R.C. Church Mantoloking Rd. Brick.
