Veronica Hochkeppel Leishman Obituary


Veronica Josephine (Hochkeppel) Leishman of Jackson Township, NJ passed away on November 7, 2024.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 10am at St. John's Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut Street, Lakehurst, NJ with a Celebration of Life to follow at 12:00pm at Encore, 1000 Buckingham Drive, Manchester, NJ. Please advise one of the family members if you plan to attend as it is a gated community.

Vera was born on July 21, 1930 in Clifton to Albert and Cathryn Hochkeppel (nee Murphy.) She attended Fair Lawn High School and from there attended New Jersey Teachers College in Paterson where she graduated in 1951. She taught Kindergarten, worked at DePaul HS and retired from the Wayne Township Police Force and eventually moved to the Jersey Shore.

Met and married the love of her life, Alexander T. Leishman on April 24, 1954 and they recently celebrated their 70th Anniversary.

Vera is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Albert, Joseph, Charles and William. She is also preceded in death by her grandchildren Jeffrey and Karley, as well as her daughter, Gail (Leishman) Gaskill and her son in law Mark (Karen) Lindeblad.

Vera is survived by her husband of 70 years Alexander Thomas Leishman, her son Scott Leishman (Karen Statham) children Sarah, Grace and Alex, Son in law Brett Gaskill and their children Brian, Erica (Chris), Bailey and Reagan, daughter Karen Lindeblad and children Matthew and Hannah, daughter Judy Civil (Mark) and children Alex, Connie and Abbey, daughter Lori Letizia (Larry) and children Nichole and Luke, and daughter Sandi McMullan (Kevin) and children Maggie, Emma and Jack. Vera is also survived by her great grandchildren Parker, Logan, Naomi and Alice. In addition to her immediate family, Vera is survived by countless nieces and nephews and their loving families.

Vera loved her family and was involved in all of their endeavors. Vera and Al were prominent supporters of their children's education and instrumental contributors to Our Lady of Consolation and later DePaul High School in Wayne. She supported each of her children in their successes and lifted them up in their defeats. She was ever present for the births of her grandchildren and was instrumental in helping her children become the parents they are today. Vera and Al enjoyed travelling to stay involved with their extended families' celebrations all over the Eastern Seaboard. She was an avid reader, loved crafts and enjoyed long walks. Vera loved knitting with her needlecraft neighbors in Leisure Knoll.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
