CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

Otto Bauer, Sr.
born May 28, 1861 in Brooklyn, NY
died June 12, 1916 in Newark, New Jersey - age 55 years.

Father: Christian Bauer (1835-1897)
Mother: Catherine E. Horn (1832-1901)

First Wife: Emma Kraus (1863-1889)
Second Wife: Marie Weber (?-?)

Cause of death: Angina Pectoris

Angina pectoris, commonly known as angina, is severe chest pain due to a lack of blood, hence a lack of oxygen supply of the heart muscle, generally due to obstruction or spasm of the coronary arteries. The main cause of angina is coronary artery disease. This disease is due to a condition in which an artery wall thickens as the result of a build-up of fatty materials such as cholesterol. The term angina pectoris can be translated as "a strangling feeling in the chest".

As the symptoms may herald myocardial infarction (a heart attack), they require urgent medical attention and are generally treated as a presumed heart attack.

In Otto's case, the symptoms led immediately to a critical heart attack and his death.
