CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

George A. Bittlingmeier
born October 24, 1883, in Newark, NJ
died September 30, 1921, in Union, NJ - age 37 years.

Father: Louis Bittlingmeier (1844-1899)
Mother: Katharina Schuhmann (1856-?)

Cause of death: Chronic Parenchymatous Nephritis

George was working as a candy salesman and living with his mother, Katharina, and his step-father, Sebastian Kern, in Union, NJ when he died from Chronic Parenchymatous Nephritis, a form of Bright’s Disease, which is an inflammation and deterioration of the kidneys.

Indulgence in alcoholic and malt beverages is sometimes responsible for the disease, the frequency with which it appears in beer-drinkers being evidence. But it should also be noted that workmen exposed to cold and damp, and who live in damp, poorly ventilated apartments, are also subject to the disease. I have no way of knowing what conditions may have led to George's illness.

He suffered for 4 months from the disease before dying at home. He never married. He was buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Newark.
